Vote by Mail (US)
In New Jersey, any voter can now vote by mail. You do not need a reason to vote by mail. Don't feel like going to the polls? Simply vote by mail. Now there is no excuse not to vote!
As an Essex County resident you may apply for a mail-in ballot if you are a qualified and registered voter by written application to the County Clerk's Office. The deadline for such requests are seven (7) days prior to any and all elections (Primary, General, Municipal, School, etc.). The voter may also apply in person to the Clerk's office, or by authorized messenger, on any day up to 3:00 P.M. the day before an election.
The County Clerk cannot accept faxed or e-mailed copies of the Vote by Mail Application (unless you are an overseas voter, see below), since an original signature is required.
What you must do:
- You may download an Vote by Mail Application, or pick one up in person at the Clerk's Office or from your local, municipal clerk; AND
- Send completed application to PO Box 690, Newark, NJ 07102-0690; OR
- Present the application in person at the Clerk's Office
