Notary Public Licenses
Individuals who wish to become a Notary Public may obtain an application from the County Clerk's Office. All applicants must be endorsed by a State Legislator when applying to become a Notary Public. Newly appointed Notaries must also take the oath of office at the County Clerk's Office
What you must do:
You can now apply to be a Notary Public online. Another option is to download a Notary Public Application, or pick one up in the Clerk’s Office.
When your license is approved and you need to take the Oath, you must appear in person at the Clerk’s Office or at one of the Outreach Locations. All services are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. You can make an appointment by clicking here.
What you must bring:
- Approved Notary License
- NJ Driver’s license with current address or utility bill with current Essex County address
- Applicants with an OUT OF STATE driver’s license MUST BRING a copy of a letter from your employer in Essex County on company letterhead stating that you will be notarizing documents there OR provide a utility bill with your name and current Essex County address.
What it will cost:
- $15.00 to administer the Oath of Office, payable by cash, US Postal money order, or certified check.
